NYMTC’s Response to COVID-19

Given the unprecedented public health emergency that has arisen around the COVID-19 outbreak, NYMTC has converted to remote operations for its staff and the related staffs of its member agencies. Despite this, NYMTC is operating as an organization and its members are fulfilling important emergency roles related to their responsibilities as agencies. Below are a few examples of NYMTC’s continuing activities in this challenging time:

  • NYMTC’s members and staff are working to safeguard the flow of federal funding into the region through actions to manage its Transportation Improvement Program and to solicit and evaluate projects proposed for federal funding.
  • NYMTC’s members and staff are organizing to ensure the seamless availability of emergency federal funding through the CARES Act to transit operators throughout its jurisdiction.
  • NYMTC is using its collaboration with nine other metropolitan planning organizations and councils of government in eastern Pennsylvania, northern New Jersey, the upper Hudson Valley and southwestern Connecticut as an important communications channel to share information and address needs. Examples include safeguarding the supply chain during the emergency and sharing information on emergency federal funding.
  • NYMTC’s members and staff are exploring virtual methods for public outreach to maintain the schedule for the development of its next federally-required Regional Transportation Plan.
