NYMTC Bicycle Data Collection Program

TRAIN STATIONS

For 2002/2003 counts, table 1 is for 22 stations on the Long Island Railroad and table 2 is for five stations on the Metro-North Railroad west of the Hudson River. The number of lockers rented was obtained from the company renting the lockers. The utilization of bikes at bike racks was observed on a weekday in August, 2002, during the midday period. The number of bikes chained to fixed objects and freestanding bikes were also observed.

 

For 2004 counts, table 1 shows the results of a survey of bicycle locker and rack facilities at five Long Island Railroad stations. Four stations are on the Port Jefferson Branch: Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington, Greenlawn and Northport. The other, Patchogue, is on the Montauk Branch. The stations were surveyed during the midday period on a weekday.

 

The 2005 count shows the result of a survey of bicycle and rack facilities at the Freeport Long Island Railroad station along the Babylon Branch. The station was surveyed during the midday period on a Saturday.

 

The 2008 count were conducted at the Long Beach Long Island Railroad station along the Long Beach Branch. Bicyclist were observed, during 2 weekdays, entering and exiting the train station. In addition, the utilization of bikes at bike racks and the number of bikes chained to fixed objects along the street were observed.
