Bicycling and other non-motorized transportation are an integral part of transportation planning in the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) region.
In an effort to monitor non-motorized modes of transportation, a comprehensive data-gathering effort, initiated by NYMTC, has been conducted.
Phase I was conducted in the fall of 2002 and the spring/summer of 2003, Phase II, was conducted in the spring/summer of 2004, Phase III was conducted in the spring/summer of 2005 and Phase IV was conducted in spring/summer of 2008.

The results are presented in two sections, one for the five boroughs of New York City, and one for the five suburban counties
