Westchester - W004

South County Trailway at Woodlands Lake

Location W004 is on the South County Trailway at Woodlands Lake. This is a beautifully scenic location along the east side of Woodlands Lake. The trail here also follows the old Putnam Railroad. Figures W03-004-1 and -2 show the trail at the intersection of a bridge that crosses the lake to the parking lot. Warning signs on the trail here incorrectly indicate a four way intersection ahead, when it is really a “T” intersection. Figure W03-004-3 and -4 show the bridge, underneath which is a small waterfall. Figures W03-004-5 and -6 show benches and an abandoned historic building, respectively, that are located on the west side of the lake between the parking lot and the bridge. Figure W03-004-7 shows the parking lot. The parking lot can be accessed from the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway. This is the only practical way of accessing this trail here, because the site is sandwiched between the Saw Mill River Parkway and the New York State Thruway.
