Suffolk - Su002

Grand Boulevard just East of NY 231, Deer Park

Location Su002 is at the intersection of Grand Boulevard and NY 231 (Deer Park Avenue) in Deer Park. Grand Boulevard has a marked bike lane. Figure Su03-002-1 shows the eastbound approach. The bike lane is between the right turn traffic lane and the through traffic lane. This prevents conflict between right turning vehicles and through bicycles at the intersection. However, as shown in Figure Su03-002-1, bicyclists and right turning vehicles must cross paths upstream of the intersection. At the far side of the intersection, the bike lane is on the right side of the roadway, as shown in Figure Su03-002-2. The layout is the same for the westbound direction, as shown in Figures Su2-3 and Su2-4. On the westbound approach, a sign advises right turning vehicles to yield to bikes when entering the right turn lane (Figure Su03-002-3). There is a bike detector in the bike lane at this approach. Figures Su03-002-5 and -6 show Deer Park Avenue, which is a signed bike route.
