Forest Hill Road and Richmond Avenue

Location S006 is at Forest Hill Road at Richmond Avenue, just south of the Staten Island Mall. There is no marked bike lane, and the area is unfriendly to bicyclists, as shown in Figures S04-006-01 thru -6. In phase I, only three bicyclists were observed during the entire weekday, and no bicyclist was observed during the Sunday midday period. In phase II both bicycle and automobile counts were performed at this location. Forest Hill Road joins Richmond Avenue to form a T-intersection. This intersection is controlled by a traffic signal. Richmond Avenue runs north-south and has four travel lanes in each direction. Forest Hill Road has one travel lane in each direction. Both Richmond Avenue and Forest Hill Road have no shoulders or bike lanes. Richmond Avenue has a sidewalk on the east side and Forest Hill Road provides a sidewalk on the north side. |
