The Long Island Sound Ferry Coalition (LISFC)
was established because agencies on both the Connecticut and
New York sides of the Sound felt that ferries could, and should, play
an important role in the regional transportation network. The Coalition
provides a cooperative regional framework for planning, implementing
and promoting improvements to the operation of ferry services on Long
Island Sound and its tributaries, including the lower Connecticut
River, Peconic Bay and the Upper East River. The Coalition has been
exploring ferry transportation issues on the Sound through presentations
and discussions among attendees and participants in the group.
The LISFC provides a multi-state coordination framework for implementing
and promoting improvements to safety in the operation of ferry services
on Long Island Sound. The Coalition will also monitor issues relevant
to maritime transportation on the Sound.
The LISFC Data Clearinghouse grew out of the group's discussions
to have information regarding ferry transportation on Long Island
Sound available in one place. The data may be on the pages or in
PDF format but will more likely be in the form of linkages to the
web pages of organizations responsible for the data regulations,
or other information. The site will be updated on an ongoing basis
as new information becomes available or as organizations develop
their web resources.
The data and linkages are now organized into four groups: Ferry
Plans and Regulations; Existing Routes, Fares and Schedules; Maritime
Transportation Financing; and Coastal Community Information. If
you would like receive announcements for Long Island Sound Ferry
Coalition meetings, contact the New York Metropolitan Transportation
Council at 212-383-7250. If you would like further information regarding
