Current News

The study team has completed its analysis of potential traffic reduction strategies. The results were presented at the afternoon and evening sessions of the November 28, 2007 Alternative Scenarios Presentation and Modeling Workshop.

The strategies include:

  • Diversion of traffic from the Manhattan Bridge to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel
  • Dedicated lanes for high-occupancy vehicles (HOVs) in the Holland Tunnel and on the Manhattan Bridge
  • Conversion of Canal Street and Grand Street into a pair of one-way streets.
  • The meeting summary can be reviewed here.

The CATS II Parking Study is underway to identify issues relating to parking demand, supply and usage and to formulate recommendations to address specific needs. Meetings were held with three Manhattan community boards and local community organizations in the study area to help identify the focus areas for future efforts. Interviews have been completed to help in the identification of travel modes used and parking patterns in the study area. On street and off-street parking surveys are expected to start in the spring of 2008.

An overview of the Parking Study can be reviewed here.
