Model

NYMTC has developed the Best Practice Model (BPM) in response to the Federal Requirements of Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) and Clean Air Act (CAA) of the 1990s. This model predicts changes in the future travel patterns in response to changes in the demographic profiles and transportation systems in the region. The study area includes 28 counties in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. NYMTC's BPM is a state of the art model and includes some innovative approaches such as:

1
Unit of travel is journey rather than trip,
2
Microsimulation framework is used to track journeys of each individual in the study area,
3
Stop frequency and stop locations are modeled,
4
Non motorized mode is analyzed as a separate mode,
5
Multimodal assignment is conducted.

This model will provide the decision makers and the planners of this region with a very valuable tool, for the long range plans, sub-area and corridor analysis.
